US Rolls Out Premium Visa Interview Service

The U.S. State Department is set to launch a pilot program offering a premium visa interview service for eligible B1 and B2 visa applicants. Beginning July 1 and running through December 31, 2026, this initiative allows individuals to pay an additional $750 to secure an expedited interview slot at select embassies and consulates. This new option aims to address the persistent long wait times many international travelers face for U.S. visa appointments, particularly for business and tourist visas.
This development comes amidst a period of evolving U.S. immigration policies and increasing costs for applicants. As of 2026, most nonimmigrant visa applicants are already subject to a new $250 “Visa Integrity Fee,” a non-waivable surcharge applied to various categories including B-1/B-2, F, M, H-1B, and J visas. While the premium service offers a faster path to an interview, officials emphasize that the additional payment does not guarantee visa approval, expedite the overall processing time after the interview, or alter eligibility requirements.
The introduction of this expedited service reflects ongoing efforts to manage demand within the U.S. immigration system, which continues to grapple with significant backlogs across various application types, including green cards and asylum cases. For many, the standard appointment process will remain, but for those with urgent business, family commitments, or time-sensitive travel plans, the premium option may offer a much-needed convenience in navigating the complex visa landscape.
